Richard Aiken is the Communications Specialist of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Services/Squad), Bravo Team. Richard is the communications between both teams, and probably has a more major role than any of his other teammates in the original Resident Evil, an the remake, except maybe Rebecca Chambers, and Enrico Marini. Unlike most of the members of Bravo team, Richard is actually alive when you find him. In the original, it doesn't matter how quickly you get the serum, he still gives you his radio, and dies. And all he leaves for you is some ammunition. In the remake, if you get the serum quickly enough he can still be saved. If you're playing as Chris Redfield, he helps Rebecca move him into the room where the serum is found, and you can go in there whenever you're hurt and be healed by Rebecca. If you're playing as Jill, Richard will stay in the same room, but it will keep the Zombie from spawning there until after you fight Yawn.

If you play as Jill, Richard will show up to help you fight Yawn, and eventually end up sacrificing himself to save Jill from the giant snake. If you play as Chris, Richard is alive until you enter the shark tank, where he's killed saving Chris from Neptune. Like I said, a very heroic character, who values his teammates above himself. Now, we have Umbrella Chronicles, where in some of the trailers, you can see Richard in the Mansion with Rebecca, and pushing her out of the way near a window, which appears to have a snake on the other side. Not to mention that during an instant of one of the trailers, you can see Yawn's head, only inches from Rebecca's. I have to assume now, that since Richard is playable with Rebecca... and since you can see them both fighting a snake, that we will probably see a little bit more about Richard and Rebecca running around the mansion, and facing Yawn. It should be interesting.
